Today In History:

The first Kentucky Derby is held at Churchill Downs. (1875)

Derby time in Louisville is something to go see. Starting two weeks before Derby Day, life is a party everywhere you go. If you have minimal time to spend, try not to miss Thunder Over Louisville. It is an all afternoon air show where fighter planes buzz the downtown buildings, the ground shakes and you think the windows are going to break in the car. As soon as it is dark, they blow up three bridges and a few barges on the Ohio river with a gazillion bucks worth of fireworks.

I once attended Thunder all day and spent only $20. I vowed to return every year possible.

about the "Today In history" feature

Induced by a long evening of insomnia and nothing better to do, I compiled the "today in history" feature based on historical events and set to display on the day they occured. From time to time there may not be an event displayed, as the list is in its final stages for a complete 365 day year of interesting, humorous, silly or worthless facts. Check in daily for trivial history.
